Cantine Barbera, La Bambina Menfi Rosato 2021

Marilena Barbera is proprietor and winemaker at Cantine Barbera, a boutique winery located in Menfi, on the Southwest coast of Sicily. Her family has been grape producers for three generations. From her grandfather who planted the first indigenous vineyards in the early 1920’s to her father who walked in his parent’s footsteps and selected the grape varieties which would best adapt to the land’s micro-climatic conditions. Her commitment is to produce high quality wines only with the grapes grown and selected in their 30 hectares in Tenuta Belicello, only a few steps away from the Mediterranean Sea while continuing to carry on her father’s dream. La Bambina is Marilena Barbera’s ode to strong women and their pursuits of determination. Digging deeper, she was told there was no such market for a rose made from Nero d’Avola in the vineyard she was using at the time. She persevered and planted a new vineyard a bit later, ultimately making the dry rose she originally envisioned.
